Welcome to Mr. Kondrick's Class!
Hello and welcome! I am so privileged to be guiding our 5th and 6th-grade students this year.
Our classroom is a positive, supportive community where we work hard and celebrate every success. Our primary focus is on making meaningful, individual progress. We are dedicated to building a strong foundation of skills, discovering our unique strengths, and fostering the confidence to tackle new challenges.
I am so proud of the determination and curiosity our students show every day. This is a place where we champion personal growth and work together to achieve our individual goals, one step at a time.
This website is a resource for our students and families. I believe in a strong home-school partnership, so please don't hesitate to reach out.
We are on our way to a fantastic year of learning!
About Me.
This is my 15th year at this wonderful school, and I'm so proud to be a part of this community. I've had the pleasure of working as both an Aide and an Assistant before becoming a teacher.
My passion is helping students find their "a-ha!" moments and build confidence in their skills.
Outside of the classroom, I'm a big fan of technology and creativity. I spend a lot of my free time designing and making new things with my 3D printer.
Our Classroom Vision
My vision is for our classroom to be a safe, structured, and caring community. This is a place where every student is seen, heard, and empowered. We are a team that works together to build confidence, take on new challenges, and celebrate our unique strengths.
This is an environment where taking risks is encouraged, effort is celebrated, and every student is given the support they need to grow.
To bring this vision to life, we focus on a few key goals every day:
Champion Personal Growth: Our primary goal is to make consistent, individual progress. We celebrate effort, perseverance, and every "a-ha!" moment. Success is measured by your personal best, not by comparing ourselves to anyone else.
Build Foundational Skills: We work hard every day to strengthen our core skills in reading, writing, and math. Our goal is to build a solid foundation that gives us the confidence and the tools we need for future success.
Foster Independence & Responsibility: We practice organization, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. I am dedicated to helping each student learn to take ownership of their learning, understand their own needs, and become a confident, independent thinker.
Practice Kindness & Community: We are a classroom family. We treat each other with respect, listen to different perspectives, and learn how to work together as a supportive team.
What we're working on...
One of the greatest benefits of our small, self-contained classroom is the ability to provide truly personalized learning for every student.
Our primary goal is to meet each student exactly where they are and give them the specific tools they need to find success and make meaningful progress. We are not focused on a "one-size-fits-all" curriculum; we are focused on your child's individual journey.
Here is how that works in our key subjects:
Reading & Writing: Lessons are tailored to each student's academic level. We work in small groups and one-on-one to build skills in comprehension, fluency, and written expression. This ensures your child is building confidence and mastering the "just-right" skills they need to grow.
Math: We target the specific math skills each student is ready to learn. Whether we are reinforcing foundational concepts or moving on to new challenges, every lesson is designed to build a strong, confident understanding of math at a pace that is both supportive and appropriately challenging.
My goal is to structure every lesson to support your child's individual needs, allowing them to build mastery and celebrate their own powerful growth.
Homework
Our homework policy is designed to build strong, positive routines and reinforce the skills we learn in class. Homework should be a consistent, manageable practice, not a source of stress.
Here is our weekly routine:
1. Daily Math Fluency
What it is: A single math fluency page designed to build confidence and speed with core math skills.
When: A new page will be sent home Monday through Thursday.
No Weekends: No math homework will be assigned on Fridays or over the weekend.
2. Daily Reading
What it is: 15 minutes of reading each night.
Why: This is the most important part of our homework. Consistent reading is the best way to build vocabulary, improve comprehension, and foster a love for stories.
What to read: This can be independent reading, reading aloud to a family member, or even a family member reading to your child. Any reading counts!
3. The Homework Log
How it works: Your child will bring home a homework log each day in their folder.
Your Role: After the math and reading are complete, please initial the log for that day.
Returning: Please have your child return the completed math page and the initialed log in their folder each morning.
Homework is practice. If you find that your child is consistently struggling or becoming frustrated, please stop and send me a note. My goal is to support your child, and your feedback is essential. We can always work together to find a solution.
