All about the teacher
Hello families! My name is Mrs. Gestwicki, and I’m so excited to be your child’s first grade teacher this year! I’ve been teaching since 2010, and began my time at Ripley in 2016. I truly love helping young learners grow in confidence, curiosity, and creativity.
Outside of the classroom, I’m a proud mom of three wonderful children, and I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring new books, and sharing my love of reading with my students. I’m looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, laughter, and discovery together!

In reading we are...
learning about the world through non-fiction texts. We will explore all the text features of non-fiction books and become experts in various topics.
In writing we are...
writing small moment stories by zooming in on one small moment in our lives and adding details, feelings, and dialogue to make our writing interesting.
In math we are...
learning strategies to subtract, such as drawing a picture and crossing out to solve, breaking apart numbers, and practicing fluency.
In social studies we are...
learning about families from now and long ago. We will discuss the responsibilities of family members, what they need and want, and how they work together.
