Mrs. Alberta Parker
I’m so excited to have you in art class this year. In this room, we get to create, imagine, and explore all kinds of art together. We’ll paint, draw, build, color, and try new things every day! I can’t wait to see the wonderful artwork you create.
I have been teaching at RCS since November 2015. I teach art to all the grade levels, PK3 through 6th grade. It is wonderful to see my students grow each year. I am passionate about sharing my love of art and creating with my students.
I am also involved in painting the sets and making the costumes for the musical. I enjoy seeing our students perform in the musicals and am thrilled to be able to add to their experience with the sets and costumes.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening, sewing and reading.
Visions/Goals
My littlest learners focus on learning shapes and colors, developing fine motor skills by holding pencils and markers correctly. They also practice using scissors and glue sticks properly. They learn responsibility by taking care of the materials in the art room. They learn about artists such as Eric Carle, Seurat and Van Gogh.
The primary grades explore and gain skills with a variety materials, tools and art making techniques. They learn art practices such as mixing colors to create new colors, adding layers to create a collage, and a variety of techniques using different media such as colored pencils, oil pastels and tempera paints. They complete several projects throughout the year. Each project has a specific theme or topic and art vocabulary.
The 3rd through 6th grade continue to develop their knowledge and skills in variety of materials, tools and techniques through practice. They then apply the their learning to creating a variety of project throughout the year. They also reflect on each of their artworks by writing an artist statement.
My desire as the art teacher is for all my students to enjoy the creative process and strive to create High Quality Work. I realize each student is different, some more are more "naturally artistic" than others but I encourage each student to do their best to express their ideas in their art.
