Welcome to Kindergarten!
Our school year will be filled with fun, learning, growth, and discovery. It's my goal to help your child grow and love school!

Academic and Curriculum Focus:
Math: We will be learning lots of new things as well as building a deeper understanding of what you learned in PK 4. Some of the things we will learn about are:
-2D and 3D shapes
-Comparison of length and weight
-Number pairs
-Addition and subtraction to 10
-Counting to 100 by the end of the year
ELA (English Language Arts): In Kindergarten, students will learn:
-To read independently
-To love reading
-New and exciting vocabulary
-All letter names and sounds
-Kindergarten sight words
-To write narratives, informational, and persuasive texts
-To give and receive feedback to improve the quality of their work
-To reflect on his/her learning and set goals to improve performance
Science & Social Studies: Units are in depth studies that offer real world connections and inspire students. During this time students will create, imagine, explore, engineer, and research many topics such as:
-Myself and Others
-How Can I Be a Good Citizen?
-Understanding Economics and Geography
-Push, Pull, Go (forces)
-Plant and Animal Interactions with Their Environment
-Changes to the Environment
-Investigating Weather Patterns
Homework Policy:
Students are expected to complete reading and math homework each night. They should read (or be read to) for 15 minutes every night. There will also be math homework for students to practice their fluency. Please initial your child's homework log each night once it is completed. I've attached an example of the homework log below so you know what to look for!
