More than 50 students participated in January's Gymnastics After School Program. Students were flipping, tumbling, rolling, dancing, jumping, and having a great time! A big thank you goes out to the staff that made this program the success that it was.
The following students were recognized this morning for exhibiting one or more of the Ripley Character Strengths; Grit, Respect, Responsibility, Leadership, and Thankfulness. Great job scholars!

Kindergarten scholars have been learning how living things impact the environment. Students worked in groups to prepare soil to make it sturdy enough for a house. They tested their hypotheses by using legos and blocks to build a house and document how the environment changed.
Members of the Chautauqua Lake Student Admin Team visited RCS yesterday to deliver candy-grams to each student. CLCS students introduced themselves during a school-wide Crew Celebration and then visited individual classrooms to read a story and make the deliveries.
PK-G6 students visited the Ripley Public Library to decorate the mini trees and listen to a story. The upcoming Winter Break begins on 12/22 with students returning on 1/3. Families are encouraged to visit the library over the break to check out the trees. Great job scholars!
The Kindergarten and 3-6 Select Chorus did a wonderful job performing their Holiday Concert this past Tuesday. It was wonderful to see the gymnasium packed with friends and family. A big thank you goes out to Mrs. M for her work with these musicians. They did great!
RCS Staff will be kicking off the Christmas in Ripley festivities at 6:30pm this evening by caroling on a hay-less hay-wagon. The wagon will be traveling around the village of Ripley and families are encouraged to come outside if they hear singing. Pictured is map of the route.
We will be holding an Ugly Christmas Sweater competition amongst staff next Friday to raise money for Project Love Bear. Students are encouraged to get in on the fun with holiday themed garb.
There has been a change to the district calendar. The last day of school for the month of December will be Wednesday, December 21. There will be no classes for students on Thursday, December 22 to allow for an in-service day. All RCS faculty and staff will be participating in a day-long CPR/AED/first aid mandatory training.
We held our December Crew Celebration today. The following students were recognized for completing their nightly reading homework daily. Every student (PK-6) at RCS has nightly homework. This homework assignment is to read or be read to for a minimum of 15 minutes. Great job!
Second grade scholars made models of different landforms today. Students are learning about how maps take a Bird's Eye View of the geographic characteristics of a community or area. They also learned about symbols, legends, and geographic vocabulary. Great job!

Grades 5 & 6 have been studying the Eastern Hemisphere during Social Studies. Ancient Egyptians believed that they could take objects and loved ones with them into the afterlife. Students practiced some of these ancient techniques by mummifying an apple. Great job scholars!
Grade 3 went on a rock wall adventure at Mission Meadows today. The students had a wonderful time, and all gave it a try. Several of the children demonstrated the RCS Character Trait of Grit by attempting to scale the wall multiple times. Great job!
First graders have been learning to write "How to" books during their Writers Workshop. Today they had a chance to share their books with the class. We have some experts in Mrs. Gestwicki's class. Great job!
